Final Fantasy 10

Review

Final Fantasy X is a landmark for gaming. It does everything that previous Final Fantasy's have done before, but expands and improves.

The story is excellent, and could not be better. The background of the overall story is done quite well, although a few minor aspects remain a mystery. The progression of the story that the player interacts with is revolutionary. The characters all talk and have facial animations, and seem like real actors/actresses. The mouth usually never moves exactly with the words, but usually it doesn't detract from the experience.

The characters are all very real and well done, and each has their own personality and accent. Tidus is the brave hero that acts whiny. Yuna is the caring summoner that puts her life on the line for the sake of others. Wakka is a nervous athlete, complete with a Jaimacan accent. Kimhari is the quiet one of the group, and Lu-Lu is the serious person that puts the mission first. Auron is another serious one, but he has the cool, calm warrior attitude. Rikku is the playful girl that appears in the FF series.

The game play is a tad different from previous FFs, but the core is still the same. The difference is that battle sequence is now predetermined, meaning no more cheap shots from enemies while deciding your next move. This is a great plus. Also, while only three characters can be in battle at once, you can substitue any other character in, meaning battles can utilize everyone. This is an awesome new way of fighing, and adds a ton of strategy. Lastly, Yuna is the only character that can summon monsters, and these "aeons" replace the group of characters in a battle when they are summoned. They don't do a single shot and leave, you control them just like a normal character.

The game length is quite nice, progressing the story and character-development in a good way. The game invokes many feelings while playing. First, the perfect combination of graphics, sound effects, music, talking, character-development, and storyline all mix together to make the feelings happen. Throughout the game I experienced joy, happiness, loneliness, humor, and the most of all, sadness. The music is present during each scene to help invoke the feelings. Such a powerful game, invoking so much from the player, plus the game play and RPG elements are outstanding.
