Final Fantasy has established itself as one of the most successful gaming franchises, with a devoted fanbase and a strong reputation for delivering compelling narratives and reliable RPG mechanics. With the release of Final Fantasy XV, expectations were high, and although there may be some slip-ups, the game still manages to impress.

Set in the fictional world of Eos, Final Fantasy XV follows Noctis Lucis Caelum, the rightful heir to the throne, as he seeks to retrieve a stolen crystal and prevent eternal darkness. The game shares thematic similarities with the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy sub-series, which links some of the lore from Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Type-0.

The combat system in Final Fantasy XV is a departure from previous entries, transitioning from turn-based to real-time combat. This change allows for greater strategic flexibility and a more seamless experience. The involvement of companions, who are governed by the game's AI, is also a highlight, with the Link Strikes looking impressively cool in action.

Aside from the main campaign, there are numerous extracurricular activities that help players assign ability points on the ascension grid, which diverges into varying skill trees. These allow players to plot points into passive, magic, and combat abilities, while other skills scale through usage. With so much to see and do, players are encouraged to undertake multiple playthroughs to fully experience everything the game has to offer.

The soundtrack, composed by Yoko Shimomura, is a moody, atmospheric number that encapsulates the themes of love and friendship synonymous with the Final Fantasy franchise. The only notable drawback in the game is that the lead characters may not resonate with players as much as hoped. Despite this, the bond between the central cast is evident from the beginning, driving the plot forward.

In summary, Final Fantasy XV is an excellent addition to the series, mostly for fans of the franchise. With engaging combat, a vast world to explore, and a captivating soundtrack, the game is sure to provide countless hours of enjoyment.
