Introduction of Final Fantasy XV’s Story

Final Fantasy XV is set in a world where crystals contain immeasurable amounts of both political and military power. Countless wars have been waged over these all-powerful crystals, and almost all of them have been lost to these same conflicts. In their efforts to regain the power these lost crystals once gave them, nations have focused their efforts on gaining military power, leaving the other aspects of civilized life far behind. Only one country has truly managed to surpass this issue. By keeping their crystal safe since time immemorial, the nation of Lucis has modernized far past the standards of the rest of the world.

Noctis Lucis Caelum has lived a prosperous and happy life. As the prince of Lucis, the most technologically-advanced nation in the world, he enjoys a certain amount of prestige and power. Surrounded by friends and advisers who have, in part, been brought up to support him, Noctis, the heir apparent, is all set to become the next king of Lucis who shall bring it even higher in the world. A childhood incident has even given Noctis the power to sense other people’s deaths, a power he will doubtless use to improve the fate of Lucis as a whole.

The cold war that has long raged between the nations of Lucis, Niflheim, Solheim, Tenebrae and Accordo over the power of the mystical crystals is about to be ended. Lucis and Niflheim, the most powerful nations in the conflict, have entered agreements for a treaty which shall be signed on this fateful day…

They should have known that it would never be that easy. Lucis’ hope for worldwide peace is shattered in a matter of days. On the day when the conflict should have ended, it instead begins in full. It is no longer a cold war, stuck in stalemate. It has become a full blown conflict. Instead of coming in peace, Niflheim invades Lucis and steals its crystal, the source of its technological might and military power. Caught off guard by the unexpected and brutal invasion, Lucis has no way to fight back as its primary defense, an anti-armament runewall, has been disabled by the canny Niflheim army from the inside. Lucis, the most powerful nation in the world of Final Fantasy XV, is no more.

But not all hope is lost. Noctis and his companions manage to escape during the fateful conflict. As Lucis falls to pieces behind them, they now embark on a journey that spans the world in an effort to regain Lucis’ lost power, defeat Niflheim, and put Noctis back in the place he once took for granted.
