An unexpected turn of events occurs when Lucca's latest invention, the Telepod, malfunctions, prompting Crono to travel back in time to rescue his friend Marle. This incident marks the beginning of their quest as they soon discover that there are more pressing matters to address than faulty machinery. Utilizing Lucca's innovative invention, 'The Gate Key,' and naturally occurring portals, the team embarks on a journey through time to avert their world's impending crisis.
Upon starting the game, players are immediately captivated by the exceptional graphical quality that sets a new benchmark for 16-bit systems like the SNES, along with the enchanting musical score created by Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobou Uematsu.
While much of Chrono Trigger's gameplay isn't groundbreaking, it boasts a few unique features that distinguish it from other Square titles. One notable addition is New Game +, which enables players to replay the game while retaining their characters' stats, skills, and equipment. The true appeal of New Game + lies in the opportunity to complete any missed side-quests and explore all 12 possible endings.
Chrono Trigger's captivating storyline, featuring time-traveling adventures to alter future events, is undeniably a standout feature. Modifying the past directly impacts the future, often leading to subtle changes that offer players additional scenes and resolutions otherwise unexplored in the main storyline. Although Chrono Trigger is now a rare find due to the discontinuation of both the game and the SNES, I highly recommend seizing any chance to acquire a copy and immerse yourself in its original format.
